I'm probably never going to reread this book, because it's so heart wrenching.

There were moments in this book that I wanted to slap Helen for being careless. I then had to restrain and remind myself that not knowing anything about this world or whom to trust, Helen would ultimately commit errors in judgement. I am both happy and sad about this ending. What a way to shatter my dreams and somehow leave me wanting more.

***** Amazing read, 5 stars *****

Lady Helen is coming to terms with being disowned by her uncle. It actually isn’t very hard since her life is occupied with training to fight demons now that she is a full member of the Dark Days Club. She is working on her Reclaimer powers while spending the summer in Brighton, yet Carlston’s Reclaimer powers are affecting his sanity and his mood is changing toward darkness. When a Dark Days Club colleague threatens the club and Helen herself, will she be able to find a way to stay in the light? Will the Duke of Selburn accept the dissolution of their “understanding?”

The Dark Days Pact is the second book in the Lady Helen series. This book takes place immediately following the events of the first book and readers will be quickly pulled back into this extraordinary tale. Lady Helen is a dynamic character with fears and longings like most of the people who would read this book. Goodman has worked this story into an interesting time in history and makes the Dark Day Club a plausible group that was hidden in the shadows. The Dark Days Pact is a recommended read for those who enjoy action books, historical fiction and even those who are looking for a romance. I definitely recommend that readers start with the first book, though.

Addictive! Such a fun read. Can't wait for #3!

Okay this is going to be a short review, because I'm rather pressed for time, but basically I ADORED THIS BOOK SOOOOO MUCH. I really liked the first book, but felt...slightly uncertain about it and where it was going to go. It also had some similarities to the Infernal Devices. But book 2 completely swept away those concerns. Helen is the perfect protagonist; equal parts smart and flawed, and very independent. The pacing was great, and the plot kept me guessing.
The only thing I have to say was that I found the first couple of chapters hard to get through. After that it was smooth sailing.

I'm fortunate enough to say that I won my copy of The Dark Days Pact from a Goodreads giveaway. Not only was it my first time winning from a giveaway, but it was a book I was totally stoked to get my mits on! Fantastic!

Admittedly, I was slightly underwhelmed by the chosen cover from Walker Books. Whereas the cover provided by Viking features this dark, bad-ass heroine holding a sword, Walker Books has a lady in a dress just sorta standing there in the bright blue backdrop. Worse, the headline at the top says: "This summer season should be heaven, but Lady Helen is in hell."

Snrrrk. Come on guys!! That's just... come on. It's a bit much isn't it?

And just like that, I'll probably never win a book again. I wonder why?!

Regardless, this book is awesome. If you enjoyed The Dark Days Club, the first in the series, well, here's more of the same. It did take a while for the action and intrigue to pick up from what felt like a slow beginning, but patience, young grasshopper--if anything our heroine gets more bad-ass, some secrets are revealed, and hoo boy does the drama get THICK. By the end everyone is just rolling in it! But certain twists and secrets keep the pace ticking along marvelously.

Totally enjoyed this one, and looking forward to the third in the set!
