Fantastic. One of my all-time favourite books. I loved every character, and was so drawn in to this story. Cannot wait to read the third novel in the trilogy.

A topísimo. Es el segundo libro de una trilogía que, como recordarás si eres lo bastante mayor, lo petó allá por los años 90. Por algún motivo que no recuerdo, leí el primero, El médico, y el último, La doctora Cole. Recuerdo muy poco de ambos, sí que me encantó el primero y me decepcionó muchísimo el tercero. Sé que se comentaba en aquella época que Chamán no era tan bueno como El médico, pero sí que merecía la pena... y es cierto. En el lado negativo tengo que decir que, a veces, es más minucioso de lo que me gustaría con la descripción de las operaciones que llevan a cabo los médicos en general. Y que hay un tramo del libro, en medio de la guerra civil estadounidense, que se hace un pelín más aburrido que el resto. Pero, por lo demás, es muy fácil de leer. Y describe bastante bien cómo los norteamericanos eran, y son, en general, mala gente.

Casi 900 páginas que se leen en un ratito.

Simple, beautiful story that brings to manages to bring to life a number of key mid-19th century experiences -- immigrant squalor in booming american cities, life on the frontier from both the Indian and settler perspectives, and the oppression of the Civil War. The story is nowhere near the soaring epic The Physician was, but it was still a beautiful and gripping read.
