I enjoyed this story. It was warm, interesting and captured some of the excruciating challenges of the caste system in India, and the difficulties, especially for women, to have any agency over their own lives. I think the happy ending is likely unrealistic, but I was grateful for it as a reader.

Reading The Henna Artist took me on a journey to Jaipur. I absolutely loved the twists and turns the story took, the ebbs and flows in Lakshmi’s life.
This book also gave me a peek into the beautiful cultural intricacies of Rajasthan.
