There are so many feels after reading this volume. Absolutely incredible POVs and even the amount doesn't feel daunting to keep up with. There are key new POVs giving wonderful insight into the happenings around the different cities that the main cast aren't around to shine light on. We got introduced to more kinden and there was so much expansion to the world. The villain reveals were fantastic and both are different types of extreme which makes rooting for the protagonists even more intriguing. This was so fun and look forward to getting into Blood of the Mantis.

Lots of things going on in this book because the War has come and the main characters are all scattered in different cities trying to defend themselves from the Wasp Empire advance. It's rich with battle scenes and military strategy discussions. And I was not bored by it. Thalric continues to be that complex lawful-evil character turned lawful-neutral. Totho makes a sacrifice that is probably changing his alignment. It's war and people die. All the characters go through the process of growing up, caught in a reality that is much harsher and more violent than they've ever imagined. They are not students anymore, it's the real deal.

Loved how the horrors of war are portrayed. And the justifications used to create ever more powerful weapons.
Docking some points because the way some things play out feels a bit too neat. I want the chaotic energy that's in battle scenes, brought to the story itself.
