I’ve never read a Christie and from the first page I was totally surprised. Wow, she’s funny, brilliant at social observation and characterisation. All these inhabitants of Chipping Cleghorn seem real and believable and it’s a great satire of British society in the immediate post-war era. The plot keeps one guessing, but it does go slightly bonkers towards the end as Lettie/Lottie goes full serial killer…trying to drown Mitzi being one attempted murder too much for me. But I’ll read more Christie for fun
