This title is misleading - the main love interest is not a rogue, but actually a marshmallow with a crunchy exterior. I enjoyed this substantially more than Silent Melody, which seemed to mythologize that heroine's disability.

I love this series and I am anxiously awaiting the next book!
I was really looking forward to this one - I've been wanting Phoebe to get her story since she was first introduced and it was worth the wait. I'm not going to waffle on because a lot of what I liked is the same as pretty much all the previous books in this series - the writing, the characters etc. but this one is probably one of my favourites. It was also lovely to get out of London for a bit. The parts in Cornwall were a breath of fresh air. I loved reading about and imagining the moor, the beach and the ocean and I loved meeting Trevillion's family.
After reading the epilogue,
After reading the epilogue,

I really love the idea of them living in Cornwall for the rest of their days, out in the clean air, with all the horses and the rest of the Trevillion family and Phoebe can go where she wants and when she wants and finally has some freedom.
Series: Maiden Lane #8
Rating: 5 stars - I loved it!
Lady Phoebe Batten is pretty, vivacious, and yearning to live her life. Unfortunately because she is blind her brother is overprotective and insists she has an armed bodyguard with her at all times. After an attempted kidnapping, Phoebe finds her feelings changing for her irritating bodyguard, Captain James Trevillion.
This book was wonderful! I have not wanted to put this book down since I started it and finished it within a couple of hours. Phoebe was a wonderful heroine. She was kind, sweet, and very courageous. I loved her determination to live and go against her brother, and society dictates. She was so inspiring. I adored her from the very first page!
Captain James Trevillion was a protective man who didn't let his injured leg prevent him from doing his job. I really loved how James seemed to come to terms with his limp the more time he spent around Phoebe, who was determined to still enjoy life. He definitely learned to relax more with Phoebe and actually enjoy life instead of just focusing on his duty as a guard. His family was wonderful and I loved seeing him get acquainted with his father, and getting to know his niece.
These two had a slow building relationship that grew from all the time they were together. I really enjoy forced proximity romances and this one worked wonderfully. I adored James and Phoebe’s banter and his determination to keep her safe. Everything about their relationship just worked perfectly for me and I know this will be a book that I will reread in the future. These two were just a wonderful couple and I couldn’t get enough of them.
Trigger Warnings: kidnapping, references to rape

“It’s not my blindness that cripples me, it’s everyone else deciding I can’t live because of my blindness.”

Guess I should have read the earlier ones first since it felt like I missed the whole start of their romance. Plot made very little sense.
Just wanted to rush through this book to get to Duke of Sin, but it was SO GOOD.
After slowly losing her sight over a three-year period, the heroine of the story has fully gone blind. Her overbearing brother hires a retired foot soldier to follow her around all the time so she doesn't get hurt/trip/get lost...etc. Phoebe is an EXTREMELY likable character. She's such an adorable, dimple- faced, ball of sunshine.
Captain Trevillion is the one hired and secretly pines for Phoebe, but doesn't think hes good enough because of his rank and the age difference (he's not creepily older than her). PLUS, she is super sarcastic to him all the time because she resents the fact that she has a bodyguard.
From the very beginning, this story had my attention and I totally swooned over this love story. And of course the love scenes were the bomb. com/org/uk
