Having recently read book 1 in another edition, I read only the final two books of the box set. I enjoyed them, but since I hadn’t read them repeatedly (like book 1), they didn’t hold the same nostalgia. Also, this was a different illustrator and the images were not nearly as creepy.

This was... okay. I gave it a 3 for the nostalgia, mostly? The trailer for the movie came out a while ago, and I found myself wanting to read these again. My bookstore had the box set for pretty cheap, and seeing as I no longer had the books from my childhood, I picked them up. It only took about an hour to read through all three, so that was pretty nice, at least.

But so many of these just felt... unfinished? They weren't creepy (or funny, as some are supposed to be), just... weird. I don't know - I just really wasn't much of a fan. Obviously these books are geared towards spooking kids and not adults, but I was really hoping they would hold up a little better than they did.

At least the movie looks fun? Glad to see so much of it pulled directly from these old original illustrations!
