I enjoyed the second book of this trilogy very much. I was invested in Menolly and her journey to becoming a Harper. I enjoyed the relationships in this book, and thought the cast of characters was fantastic. Menolly and Piemur's relationship grow, as well as Menolly being tested by the Masters, earning their respect (if unwillingly for some).

This book was different than I remember, but in a good way. I knew it was about her learning, about finding her place and working hard, but I didn't realize how much hostility Menolly faced. It's a good book about how hard work pays off, and how doing what you're good at not only gets you noticed, it gets you where you want to be.
