huge spoiler warning for this review I have a lot to say for some reason but tdlr without spoilers: the first third is fun but then I realised the writing is actually awful and the plot is stupid and Alex is actually insanely toxic and a bit pathetic

anyways

so as I said the first third or so was alright, I got really invested for the first half because I kind of liked the whole enemies to lovers kind of thing even tho they weren't exactly enemies she just didn't like him much and he wasn't interested. but the moment he took interest in her he was just full of red flags like storming into a photoshoot just because she was with another guy and deleting the pics of her like wtf ?? I'm supposed to like this man who's so overprotective she can't have a life of her own if it involves another man (weren't even friends let alone dating at this point btw).

and on top of the countless red flags, there were dumb plot holes like Alex somehow putting Michael in prison only 24hr after they got a confession from him with no court case or ANYTHING. and him discovering stuff about his uncle and literally an hour later the writer saying he had someone researching him "day and night" like it's been literally an hour?? an HOUR??

the height of the book was at the 75% mark, I skipped a fair bit after that because it was BORING and then when I did read it the rest was Alex literally following her to London when she wanted nothing to do with him and she had found out he'd been lying to her their whole relationship. and yet he not only hired someone to follow her but shows up and says he is going to be the one following her literally stalking her around London. and he's all pathetic begging for forgiveness and saying he had his heart opened as if he didn't ruin her life, almost gt her killed, STALK HER, prioritise himself at every turn and be insanely overprotective and controlling the whole time. AND SHE FORGIVES HIM

a load of shit imo

If you LOVE drama, this is the book for you. If you LOVE men who are huge red flags, this is also the book for you.

Five Word Book Review: I won’t yuck your yum.

Which honestly could have been a line from the book. But really, if this is your cup of tea, read no further.

Ava Chen is sunshine and sweetness. Picture Snow White doing housework with cartoon birds and animals flitting about, helping. But Ava is plagued by nightmares and a family secret set to destroy her.

Alex Volkov is the devil dressed in Prada. He’s a smug, cold, driven businessman who’s just as likely to kill you as smile at you. He, too, is haunted by a past that has become the driving force behind every ruthless decision he makes.

The only thing to crack that stone wall? His best friend Josh’s little sister, Ava.

It’s just too much for me, too over the top. Some of the things Alex does and says are so much that, while he’s meant to be angry, I found myself laughing. It includes every single trope you can imagine: grumpy sunshine, billionaire boyfriend, next door neighbor, dead parents…throw them all out there till something sticks, I guess?

“Did that wind blow the pages of your book? I WILL TEAR OUT ITS ENTRAILS AND WRAP THEM AROUND ITS NECK UNTIL ITS EYES POP OUT.”

Take a chill, Alex.

Here’s a guy who thinks birthdays are dumb because everyone has them. Ummm. No.

I know there are a lot of people who go for this sub genre of romance novels, the possessive ownership of a sweet naive girl in a world of excess and hot lovin but it doesn’t work for me. The sēx is hot, sure, but the plot is outlandish.

I’m going to put this copy in my #lfl so it can find a happy home; after all, that’s where I picked it up.

Ava and Alex stole my heart! I loved watching their relationship blossom, and I am thrilled that they got their happily ever after. I also appreciate that the author didn't make it too easy for them and allowed the time required to rebuild trust. The storyline had enough twist and turns to keep me engaged without detracting from the romance. Well I did see the twist coming, the author did a great job at making it still a shock. The spicy scenes were well done and not overdone. I look forward to reading the next books and continuing to learn more about the other characters that were introduced in this novel.

(As a side note, if you had a book with an epilogue that is the same as the bonus scene available online.)
