Closed Door Mods: Chapter 22, Chapter 24 (some parts), Chapter 26 (some parts), Chapter 43 (some parts)

Not going to lie, this book is a bit intense, but it works (highly recommend checking out content warnings before deciding to read this). Twisted Love almost felt more romantic thriller to me since there are a lot of thriller aspects in the book, but this book kept me glued to my Kindle screen and had me to the very last page.

Really good dynamics between Ava and Alex and I liked how Huang took time to explore Alex’s moral greyness. I'm currently reading another one of her works (King of Pride) and I really like Huang's writing style when it comes to these complex characters and their relationships with others. Also, if you’re a fan of groveling in romance books, Huang has so much of that in Twisted Love. Read if you want a dark, grumpy x sunshine romance that has a similar vibe to a romantic thriller.

compulsively readable (listen-able?) but overall not good. dialogue is so very cringey and painful. plot was super predictable and there were a lot of points that felt like they were written in specifically to make the plot seem more believable.

A 5/10
W 7/10
P 7/10
I 4/10
L 6/10
E 5/10

-> 4.7/10

  • C: idk, didn't really connect, but wasn't bad either
  • W: was an audio book, narration was fine:)
  • P: i'm torn on this one, even though there were plot twists i wasn't expecting, a lot was quite predictable, like that michael is not ava father. and even if it was surprising, i didn't really care...
  • I: it took me forever to finish listening to this audiobook, i usually only listened to it, when i was doing other things and not, because i really wanted to know what will happen next
  • L: not quite sure why alex lied to ava about his feelings after the kidnapping, but chances are high that that was mentioned and i just forgot...
  • E: was alright, but i'm not eager to listen to the second book...

Overall, I really liked this book. There were some things that I found predictable, but also some things that I was completely shocked by. I do think that there were too many epilogues, most of the time even having one is not needed, but this book had like 2 or 3.

I didn't quite know what to expect out of this book, but for my first read in 2024, I am impressed!

Not sure if I thoroughly enjoyed the plots - I actually kinda predicted most of them way before they happened, it’s very much like a Mexican telenovela. The sex stuff is intriguing and weirdly appealing. But I actually read the book in less than a day, so it’s good enough. I’m curious about the next ones, I’m probably gonna read.
