This book was so funny and bittersweet! Definitely an annual read for years to come 😊

I cried at the end, I love when books manage to do that!

The humor is constant throughout the book, but it's never over the top. And very philosophical in between the mist of jokes.

Fluent to read, big fan of the writing style. It's like the words effortlessly molt into each other.

Favourite: Nurse Ratched
Some quotes:

Spoiler
"(...) But happiness isn't something that can be sustained continuously, not without something to keep the fire burning."

"Hooray!" Rambo squealed. "We all have things!"

His other foot - the left - was missing, looking as if it'd been snapped off. Rambo cheered when he found it inside another boot, holding it above his head and spinning in circles.

"I think he is a MILF." Victor had never heard of that before. "What's that mean?"
"Machine I'd like to Fornitcate."

"(...) I do not think we can disguise the android enough for Gio not to notice him. He is too big to be a toaster."

"(...) A healthy Victor is a happy Victor."

"(...) I won't have you breaking my toilet! I love it so."

Rambo waved before they could stop him. "He seems nice."
"I worry about you," Nurse Ratched said.
"Aw, thank you!"

WOMAN UP, BUCKO. THIS WON'T HURT A BIT.

Book hightlight of the year 2023!

I loved everything about this book. I'm not really one for rereads, but ... oh, but I will definitely read this book again. I had so much fun reading it and I'm in love with all the characters. They are just so adorable! And even though I had fun reading it ... it also broke my heart at the same time. I actually cried at the end of the book. The first reason is, it was so emotional I couldn't take it and the other reason is, yes, I'm coming to an end with this book and I didn't want that. Actually, I'm always happy when I finish a book, but it wasn't the case with this one. I just felt empty afterwards and wanted to go back to this beautiful world. My wish is to read another book with these characters and this really interesting world. Please, dear author.

_______________

»"I don't have a penis," Rambo said mournfully.
Somewhere inside him, gears shifted and a little slot opened up at his base. He grunted, and a little pipe extended, dripping what looked like oil. "Now I do. Hooray for penises!"«

»"Though you seem to be suffering from an intense anxiety disorder. But that is fine. We are all unique. Victor is asexual. Giovanni is old. And I have sociopathic tendencies that manifest themselves in dangerous situations."
"Hooray!" Rambo squealed. "We all have things!"«

»"Were not killing anyone today" Vic told her.
"Tell that to the squirrel," Nurse Ratched said. "Oh. Wait. You cannot. Because it is dead."
"Oh no," Rambo whispered. "What happened to the farm?"
"I lied" Nurse Ratched said. "I killed it by rolling over it again and again. I only left enough for stew for Vic. Is that not fun? I am having fun."«

»Most unfortunate, in the lives of puppets, there is always a 'but' that spoils everything. I won't pretend to say I understand your humanity. It seems fickle. Loyalty to others brings only … heartache.«

Overall was good, but glad I listened rather than read- I think especially some of the dialogues would have been a bit less interesting if I had read them.
More of a book for exploring the themes and vibes of it rather than thinking too hard about the plot holes and inconsistancies as the were a few bits that didn't quite work. I also felt that the ending feel a bit flat
But I'm always going to have a soft spot for silly robots and I really enjoyable elements of chosen family, queerness, and what it means to be human.

I was expecting more from this book after the House in the Cerulean Sea. It had some of the sweet elements I was expecting - Rambo and Nurse Ratched were the true stars - and a nice ending, but I wasn't invested in the story. And the bizarre sexual themes that were thrown in randomly were off-putting for me. It felt like they were thrown in to be "interesting".
