In volume 6 Fire Punch makes the transition about a world that's so horribly depressing it's almost funny to just being sad. I don't mean that in a bad way even, I think it still works - for a series that worked hard to keep from ever falling into either comedy or more traditional action, it makes sense to end on a note of despair.
