I liked this one so much more than the first one! I not only enjoyed the forbidden love trope more than the brother’s best friend one, I thoroughly enjoyed these characters more. I just never truly got attached to Alex and Ava in Twisted Lies, but Rhys and Bridget are *chefs kiss*. I found Bridget classy yet normal for being a royal and I felt for her when she becomes crowned princess and knows that she’s going to end up being queen so her life would be changing forever. then there’s Rhys!!! 0MG I am obsessed with him!! He’s tattooed, dark, sexy and handsome plus the ex-military thing makes him a protector which makes him extra dreamy. The spice was top-notch which really helped me over the hump of my little slump from the move. happy to be back into my reading routine, and already have Twisted Hate downloaded. Very excited to see what’s up with Jules and Josh’s enemies to lovers.

⭐️ Introduction ⭐️

At first, since I didn’t really enjoy the first book in the “Twisted Love” series, I had a few reservations about this second one. However, since I had already bought it, I knew I’d have to read it at some point! The “princess and bodyguard” theme seemed a bit overdone, and I was expecting something cliché. But, surprisingly, the clichés didn’t bother me at all. I genuinely enjoyed this read, and I’m glad I gave this book a chance! 🙌

📚 Summary 📚

To briefly summarize without spoiling the story:

• Bridget 🌹, a princess raised among nobles, dreams of freedom and a simple life. She leaves her homeland to study away from the crown, but when her grandfather’s health worsens, she’s forced to return, believing it’s only temporary.
• Her bodyguard must go back to his pregnant wife, and Rhys Larsen ✨—a former SEAL, stoic and arrogant—steps in. His two main rules? Protect at all costs and never mix emotions with work.
• From here, an explosive and passionate journey unfolds! Things get even more complicated when Bridget’s brother, Nikolai, abdicates, putting her dream of freedom at risk.

👑 Characters 👑

• Bridget is far from a stereotypical princess. She’s intelligent, charismatic, and deeply romantic 💕. She gains confidence throughout the story while staying true to herself, always putting the happiness of others and her duty as a future queen above her own desires.
• Rhys has a military past that’s left its mark. Initially cold, stoic, and distant, he gradually opens up, becoming more understanding and even caring (despite his efforts to hide it). His transformation is heartwarming, especially for a character with such a difficult past.

Their relationship starts off rocky, with constant bickering, but it’s enjoyable to watch it develop. What begins as a strictly professional relationship filled with teasing and sparring eventually blossoms into a close friendship and, finally, a deep love. 💖

📈 Plot and Pacing 📉

The main storyline follows Bridget’s journey to the throne, filled with layers of personal sacrifice and family expectations. Subplots explore themes of guilt, pain, and acceptance—not self-acceptance, but acceptance from family, with the pressure to meet expectations even if it means taking on unwanted responsibilities.

✍️ Writing Style ✍️

I was never bored or tempted to skip sections, as I had with the first book. The writing is smooth, and the pacing keeps readers engaged 🎢. Sure, some moments were predictable, but overall, the story was captivating!

🌟 Themes 🌟

• Forbidden romance between a princess and her bodyguard 🔥
• Forced proximity 🛏️
• Found family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
• Grumpy / Sunshine dynamic ☀️🌧️

🎉 Conclusion 🎉

While this book isn’t a personal favorite or a five-star read, it was enjoyable and well worth it! Perfect for readers who love a well-developed grumpy/sunshine romance and anyone who’s ever dreamed of being a strong-willed princess choosing a charismatic protector over a prince 🥂.

I read this as a book to play in the back ground. Much like the first. Not much to say beyond that. I didn’t hate it.

Their relationship was kinda cute.

I know a lot of people like this book, but it wasn’t a giant hit with me. I loved the fairytale type of ending, but part one of the book went by really fast. I felt like Ana Huang could have left it out entirely. The characters were good though, and so was the plot. The writing, again, was well written.
