I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first one! Loved the two main characters and the “will they won’t they”, slow burn, hidden romance and stolen moments aspect to their relationship. Rhys is still very possessive which is something I didn’t enjoy about the first book, but it wasn’t stalker vibes as Alex was in Twisted Love. Throughly enjoyed the characters, storyline and pacing of this book. And again… those spicy scenes were *chefs kiss* 🥵

The book does a lot of weird time skips in the beginning and throughout the story that I don’t necessarily feel make the narrative better or their relationship compelling. Much of it is offhand references to connect it to the other books in the series (all standalones) so it feels out of place. Unnecessary exposition that didn’t highlight  Rhys and Bridget’s relationship tension. Despite it being a standalone in a series of interconnected books, I think you might want to read Book 1, maybe that’ll make you like the first part of this book more.

It felt there was a lot missing in the dynamic between Rhys and Bridget. The tension between the two main characters is really off kilter at first… I felt like there was a lack of thought about building a sort of enemies/annoyances to lovers arc. Rarely did I feel like the story was on solid ground. I kept asking myself “what do they actually like about each other beyond the physical?” and found that a little difficult to answer. There are some good scenes, nice lines, intriguing plot points, and cool dialogue interspersed throughout the book but they often felt clunky. Every now and then there was something I felt could have been picked at more to make their budding desire for each other more real, or to make Rhys feel more interesting… Huang uses the word “masculine” to describe him so much. Like genuinely it’s almost like there’s no other word that exists besides that one. I’ve also never read the word “gunmetal” as much as I’ve read it in this book.

Aside from all that—there is still things to find in this book that are enjoyable. I liked it when Bridget blackmailed Parliament. I liked finding out about Rhys’ paternity/family. If you’re just looking for something to read to pass the time, this is a decent book to reach that goal. If you’re looking for stronger stuff… well you’ll find the Whiskey elsewhere…

This was the worst one.

I loved Mikaela so its such a shame she helped to release those pictures.

Absolutely love how they managed to change the laws and she could still be queen. And i love how Alex helped Bridget like she helped him!!
