The Hating Game energy, but without the hate. Call me crazy, but I melt when people are just nice to each other and fall in love.

I ADORE a fake dating trope mixed with a "lets debrief after awful dates over tacos" trope. This was so stinking cute, I was giggling and kicking my feet. I loved these characters, the story, how there was some spice but it was very toned down compared to other romances. Wow, this was so fun.

I would actually give this 3.5 stars but I rounded up to 4. The Love Wager was such a quick and fun read. I’m so upset I didn’t read it sooner! I fell in love with the witty banter between Hallie and Jack. Jack was by far my favorite character, I really liked that from the very beginning he was honest about looking for real love and was never not his true self. Hallie and Jack had the best chemistry that was made even stronger by their unlikely friendship after a one night stand. Watching them fall in love was so much fun!
In the beginning it seemed like Hallie was going to be a hot mess but then got her act together so effortlessly that making her seem that way to start felt pointless. It kind of made me disconnect from her character for a while, her confidence and humor was her characters saving grace for me. Although I liked their friendship it’s seemed like there was a lot Hallie still didn’t know about Jack. Toward the end when she was asked about his career she had to Google him to actually know what his job was. That probably bothered me more than it should have but it just made it seem like throughout their friendship she never put in effort to know common knowledge about Jack.
I did really enjoy the book and the characters but it was just small things that kept me from falling in love with it!
