Don’t tell Lynn Painter I said this but I don’t care for this one so much. Idk I had trouble getting on board with them suddenly becoming best friends and thought Jack was kinda pushy and annoying.
This was my first Lynn Painter book; unfortunately, it was just okay for me.
The main thing that threw me was that it was written in third-person dual POV. I don’t think I’ve dealt with that in a read yet, and it was not for me. It was weird and I felt it caused a disconnect between me and the characters.
Highlights:
- fake dating (one of my favorite tropes)
- the steam (good for newbies)
- catching feelings
- friendship development
- date with Stephen

You guys, this book is such a cute read OMG! I absolutely ADORED Hallie and Jack. These two were such cuties mygod! And this was such a short point to point read I absolutely enjoyed it. Can’t say I loved loved it because it felt a bit flat, maybe because closed door romance isn’t really my drill, but the banter, the ‘non-taco-date’ nights, everything about this book was fun, witty, and hilarious. And the fact that I enjoyed a book that was a third POV which is a huge deal. A very very strong 4 star read for me.
The perfect book for a quick flight! The FMC and MMC’s chemistry and friendship was cute, but I gotta be honest: the “deal” just felt silly. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the storyline, but I feel like if they just… dated each other first they could have avoided months of wasted time? But then there would be no book, soooo nevermind!!
Spice was… wait I can’t remember. So must have been low. Maybe like 2.75-3/5?

I enjoyed this book. It was fun and flirty, also made me want to travel to Vale, CO
I have read a lot of Lynn painter books and I think they’re good stories but one thing that always bothers me is that all of the fmc are pick Me’s
