Story: Art dealer has cancer, telling her life story to a kid she employed to help at studio. She was a teen mom who got shipped out to her Aunt’s island, fell in love with boy, went back to school after giving up baby. Love gets killed and they never meet back up. Turns out boy is baby she gave up. She died.

I read this book without knowing the premise first. Why this author wanted to write about a young pregnant girl is my lingering question. The number of times the character talks about her weight is also very strange coming from a cis male author. The story had some creative, touching pieces, but overall this did not land well. I just feel unsettled by it.

It’s a great book from Nicholas Sparks. There are parts that drag on but in the end it’s a beautiful story.

Was just ok - perhaps resonates more with younger readers.

The Wish is the first book by Nicholas Sparks that I have read and I am absolutely blown away by the way he writes. I love the story inside the story because it made me feel like I was actually there with Maggie experiencing everything that she was. I knew this book was going to make me cry but I wasn’t prepared for it feel like my heart was in a blender. There are so many twists that I never saw coming and the ending isn’t what I wanted it to be but I still found it to be the perfect way to finish the story.

My first Nicholas Sparks book, I loved it.
