this is my favorite nicholas sparks book to date. the plot, the sadness, the longing, i could rave to the heavens about all i love.
I read on kindle initially but then found a hard cover and snagged it while i could from my little free neighborhood library and i’m saving it for another rainy day.
but the way i SOBBED at the end of this book, i couldn’t contain the emotions that it made me feel. i can never stop recommending this book to people who want a read that will make them feel the characters and what they go through.
i cant believe the pain this girl felt, how much she just wanted to be loved back and then to always have it ripped away? i cannot.
if you want a book that will make you cry, this is it.

This book is a very typical Nicholas Sparks read with the dual storyline and clichés. It’s full of description (I could really visualize the setting) and the plot is satisfactory.
Read this if you like your books to end in a neat and tidy way with everything tied up in a nice little bow. Don’t take me saying that to mean that this book is a sappy sweet fairytale though. This isn’t necessarily “happily ever after” but rather has a (sort of) realistic ending for what the characters are and for the life experiences they’re faced with.
I struggled with the slower plot, often wishing it was a little faster paced. In the book, the protagonist is telling the story of her life to another character and the other character is eager for her to keep going with the story whenever she pauses because he’s so intrigued. I honestly couldn’t relate. The story was a little bland, not as riveting as Sparks made his character act like it was. I think having the character so excited about the story really reinforced to me how I wasn’t that drawn in and ultimately made me enjoy the book less.
One of Sparks’s shortfalls is that he’s a male author writing from a female perspective. He delved into some unique female experiences in this book and while sometimes he was accurate, sometimes he wasn’t and that really drew me out of the storytelling because it was clear he didn’t really know what he was talking about.
Overall, this wasn’t a bad read. A very middle of the road book. If you do decide to give this a shot, save it for your December reading. It’s a Christmas book and I mistakenly thought it would be a summer read so I didn’t quite have the festive spirit that would’ve maybe made me enjoy this a little bit more.

Sweet but sad :) Was my first Nicholas Sparks book, and it definitely made me cry at the end.
Minor: Cancer
Ugh!!!! The crying headache this book gave me! The beginning is a little slower and I did predict half of the ending but the half I didn’t predict Tore. Me. Up!
A beautiful contemporary fiction tale. Sparks has a way with characters and this does not disappoint. Although it is Sparks, it is unlike anything I have read by him. I am NOT a romance fan and I could not get enough of this book! Fantastic read.
⭐ 5/5 ⭐

Best Nicholas Sparks book I have read in a while. I do feel like a few things were predictable, but the feeling is still there, even though I saw it coming. It’s long, but necessary in order to tell the whole story.
