When I was in Amsterdam last week I remembered, from a few weeks before, that there had to be a Bargain YA section at the ABC in Amsterdam. It took me a while to find it, but then it was worth it. Because this book, and its sequel, were placed there. I'd never heard of this book, but the cover, the blurb, everything screamed my name and without a doubt or a second thought I decided to take both books home.

And this morning I woke up with the sudden urge to read it. From the very first page to the very last I was sucked into this wonderful world and this wonderful story. I don't know what it was exactly, but something about the world, about the story, about the characters, about everything, was enchanting, even though it was also very dark and dangerous and twisted. It's hard to explain. It was horrible and beautiful at once. It was magical and threatening at once. It was like the fairytale woods, that can be both wonderful and haunting.

But, it were the characters Tristan and Dylan, who truly carried the entire story. Even though the introduction of Dylan and her life is only brief, we get a very clear image of what her life looked like and whom she was. And even though Tristan says he doesn't have a past or a personality, we get to know him that well that it's not hard to imagine that Dylan would fall for him.

For a long while I was really wondering where the story would go and how this book would end. At some point I all of a sudden understood what was truly going on and I was already enjoying the story before then, but even more afterwards. The plot is maybe not complicated, or layered, or filled with epic turns and twists, but it's beautiful, probably mostly in its simplicity and its symbolism.

I'm really looking forward to the next book, but also as a standalone this book would have worked great! There's no big cliffhanger at the end and the arc of this book is wrapped up nicely and in a very satisfying way. I hope the second book can live up to the high expectations I now have of it!

Buckle up for a whimsical rollercoaster of love and destiny in Claire McFall's "Ferryman"! Dylan's escape from a train crash lands her in a haunting wasteland, where she discovers Tristan, a not-so-ordinary Ferryman. The plot weaves a captivating tale of love defying death, and Dylan's determination to bend the rules will keep you on the edge of your seat. The haunting landscapes and unique storyline make this debut novel a true gem. The ending leaves you craving more, making the eagerly-anticipated sequel, "Trespassers," a must-read. Don't miss the chance to embark on this thought-provoking and enchanting journey!

This book made me have all the feels. I was listening to Underground by Cody Fry on the last chapter and it made me fall in love with the book even more. I loved the plot. The characters. The ROMANCE. AGG

Teenage Dylan Is on the train across Scotland to meet her dead for the first time when the unthinkable happens. There is an accident in the tunnel and she finds herself dead.
This narrative follows her journey with her ferryman across a dangerous wasteland to the otherside. Along her journey she learns about her ferryman, Tristan, and the souls he has helped across the wasteland to the other side. She also learns of the perils and the souls he has lost during the crossing. Dylan and and Tristan begin to develop feelings for each other, but eventually Dylan has to cross over the line leaving Tristan behind. Will she see her ferryman again and, if she can, how? No spoilers here I'm afraid!

I really liked the concept of this story and how it loosely follows the concept of the River Sticks, dark souls reaching to try and drag the newly dead under. The attraction between Tristan and Dylan was predictable as was how the book ended. I found the journey to the otherside captivating, and the journey to find Tristan interesting. But I felt the ending rushed and unexplained. Especially given the constant building of information and explanation throughout the rest of the book, the ending didn't have the same level of detail. But, overall I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

A lényeg, hogy izgalmas út köti össze a két fiatalt, mely a kötet végével sem ér véget, ugyanis Claire McFall trilógiát kerekített a történetből – szerencsére!
