I thought this book had an interesting concept, but the characters weren't super likable. It's hard to describe to someone who hasn't read it, but it was SUPER hard to picture the protagonist ;), which made it hard to like them. I recommend reading the book because I feel that other people could get into it more than I could, but I just wasn't getting into it.
“If you want to live within the definition of your own truth, you have to choose to go through the initially painful and ultimately comforting process of finding it.”
this book fucked with my head and stripped me of all cynicism.
“This is what love does: It makes you want to rewrite the world. It makes you want to choose the characters, build the scenery, guide the plot. The person you love sits across from you, and you want to do everything in your power to make it possible, endlessly possible. And when it’s just the two of you, alone in a room, you can pretend that this is how it is, this is how it will be.”

had my reservations at first.. i mean, can such an out there idea really work for an entire book? i think yes. so intriguing & captivating. and at the end of the day the purest kind of love story.
While I found this book to be very entertaining, I also found the overall concept very flawed. The whole idea behind this book - the daily body switch - seemed so far fetched. I don't think that it was written very believably, and I think that in real life if something like this were to exist, it would play out COMPLETELY different than in Every Day. There was so many questions left unanswered to this person's condition. So many obvious mysteries that went unaddressed simply because there is no explanation for something like that. It seemed almost like Levithan had an idea, but didn't think out its flaws all the way.
If you can however get over that, the book was a good read. I ripped through it simply because it was so dang interesting. I loved reading about the characters, the situations, the craziness of it all. It was a fast, very enjoyable read, once I got over the silliness of the concept.
My last problem I had with this book was the ending. It felt undoubtedly rushed and empty. When I flipped the page and saw 'Acknowledgments' I was truly shocked - I thought there at least had to be a couple chapters left. It was like Levithan didn't know himself what would happen to the characters he created. He just left them on edge.
So with that being said, I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. I decided to go with 4 because while I had my issues, It kept my attention, and thats in the end all I want from a book; to be transported and entertained. And this book succeeded in that.
adventurous
emotional
hopeful
I want more! I love this. So easy to read. A little too YA for me but still such a good book. This is the type of "sci-fi" book I want to read. There weren't too many cheesy parts. The ending was actually pretty perfect. Some quotes I really liked:
How did you know it was me? The way you looked at me. It couldn't have been anyone else.
I loved this. Do you think you could recognize your loved one in someone else? Could you truly love someone if they were in a different body?
Even if you were green and had a beard and a male appendage between your legs. Even if your eyebrows were orange and you had a mole covering your entire cheek and a nose that poked me in the eye every time I kissed you. Even if you weighted seven hundred pounds and had hair the size of a Doberman under your arms. Even then, I would love you.
I feel like Rhiannon couldn't do that. When A was in a big body, she couldn't even really hold his hand. But, idk if I could do that. I'd like to think I could.
Because when something happens, she's the person I want to tell. The most basic indicator of love.
Yup.
So much happiness can only make me sad.
Yup, yup.

This book has one of the most creative, thought-provoking and utterly unique premises of a novel that I have ever encountered. Imagine waking up in a different body every day of your life, being completely unable to control or stop the switching and having no real anchor to a normal life at all. Levithan’s idea alone had me hooked. Immediately I was drawn to the fast pace of the book; while it is no adventure story, with each new chapter brings a new character with a new story to tell, and that alone was enough to keep me reading. But Levithan manages to entice with more than this, he creates a protagonist who doesn’t want wealth or fame or beauty, A (the victim of the constant body swapping) just wants what most take for granted, the same life... read the full review here: https://www.amysbookshelf.co.uk/2016/08/every-day-book-review/
Um. I devoured this book. Like I basically read this in two sittings. I love the concept. It is one of my all-time favorites now. READ IT.
just bad. also rhiannon misgenders a character so i hated her.
this is the best love story i've ever read. "every day" is a great book about love and acceptance of others, i highly recommend it to everyone!
