Loved this book so much, I am amazed at twist on the Greek (and other) myths to create a new world. The only reason it isn’t five stars is that the beginning was kind of confusing and hard to get into, but over time I found myself entirely invested.

I think the only thing I hate about this book is that it was released like two months ago and there's no sequel in sight

Wowowowwowow!

Threads that bind is all that I could have asked for in a mythology inspired fantasy it takes themes and characters that we all know and builds upon them.

I loved the depiction of the muses and the fates everything felt so truly authentic I can tell this book comes from such a place of love for mythology!

You join IO one of the fates as she’s working as a private investigator in the underbelly of Alante.

Her power is to see the threads that bind us to everything we love woven together into a quilt that only they can see her unusual power is being able to cut those threads.

Initially she’s taking smaller jobs cutting things like addiction out of peoples lives ,When she gets roped into a much larger mystery.

After several bodies turn up with the same hallmark cut threads it’s clear that something is very wrong and Io will do anything to stop it and protect her home.

There is a super slow burn romance in this that had me aching THE WORLD IS ENDING TELL THE BOY HOW YOU FEEL!!

I adored this one the world building the magic everything you could want from a debut and more I cannot wait to continue this series I have certainly grown a new thread attached to this book!

(I knew I loved Io as soon as she had a thread that attached her to a frog that was a particularly lovely shade of green

This was an unexpected book for me; the mix of murder-mystery / fantasy / gods was incredibly refreshing and was written beautifully. Although I guessed a few of the major plot lines and ending I still enjoyed this book throughly. I ADORE our main character Io and I loved reading about her relationships and feelings regarding her siblings. I also thought the world building was done impeccably considering the length of this book. I cannot wait for the sequel!

The extra half a star is me being generous. idk if I’ve ever read a book that’s pissed me off as much as this. Not even jade fire gold has managed to make me this angry. Everyone in this stupid book is equally as stupid.

I picked up this book as something 'easy' to read and wasn't expecting too much but wow am I impressed. The story basically follows a sister called Io who is a descendant from the Fates and is a 'cutter'- can cut the life threads of people essentially killing them. Io is a private investigator usually dealing with low level stuff like cheating or gambling etc etc, however when shes watching someone, a 'wraith' appears and kills a guy and is then tasked to find out who the wraiths are and what their plan is.

The characters in this book are really enjoyable and believeable, there was barely a time where I thought 'man no one that age speaks like that' which in this day and age is a hard thing to come by when main characters often speak like they came straight out of a Jane Austen novel. They all have their own issues and quirks that plays a huge part in how the story progresses. Also the LGBTQ+ representation in this book however small is done RIGHT! We have gays and theys and no one bats an eye which is soooo refreshing compared to the real world.

One thing I will give a huge round of applause for is the world building! When I read a summary of this book I was concerned it would take place in New York or something real, which sometimes just doesn't vibe well with me. I usually LOVE when an author creates there own mystical fantastical world and thats just what is in this book! We have Alante, a city that is elevated on stilts to avoid reoccuring flooding and is typically traversed by high bridges when flooding does happen. The whole city is just unique and intriguing to read about and just sounds so dreamy in a weird gloomy kind of way.

As I said, I wasn't expecting much from this book but i am pleasantly surprised AND impressed that I dont have to wait around for the second book which was released a few weeks ago
