Absolutely loved this book. It reads like a work of art & told a story that gave life to the painting itself. The narrative centers around Griet, a servant girl to the artist Johannes Vermeer. She begins as a maid and slowly becomes a muse, both to Vermeer as well as others who seek her beauty. While little is known about the model of Vermeer’s painting, this author builds a world from a glance within this painting. I found myself flipping from chapter to cover, each time learning more about the painting as seen through the authors eyes. I’d recommend this novel to everyone, especially those who enjoy historical fiction & art history.

I actually really enjoyed this book! It was interesting, a bit slow in the beginning but it quickly got faster and had me in the edge of the seat expecting more.
My favourite part is how it's written, absolutely marvellous and rich. I liked Griet's trails of thinking, how she acted and how she actually had a quite rebellious side (although some reviews find her bland I disagree).
I expected that ending (in a relationship manner) but I actually had a little part of me expecting something bigger from the master, either way the ending was good too and I liked the maid being set free from annoying and/or confusing men.

Leest super vlot en na een halve pagina zit je direct weer in het verhaal, want alles wordt mega goed omschreven. Het einde vond ik wat minder, precies beetje rap rap geschreven en in het Engels zou ik het moeilijker begrepen hebben denk ik.

Historical fiction looking into the life of a young girl trapped in circumstances she could not control and an artist’s life in the mid 1600’s. The characters came to life for me as I read this book.
