4.3 AVERAGE

I liked this entry even better than the first book, which took me a bit to warm up to. I was very pleased with how the various character arcs developed, and I'm excited to continue on with the series.

Where do I begin? I don't have to, because the story continued and expanded even further into story and legend. I can deal with multiple plot lines/storylines, as long as they relate to the others somewhat. With BTaH; each is just as valid and important as the other, and to me; cannot exist without the other. You can almost see where they will converge. The question is, who will be there when it does??

We get more character development and growth. I feel like we learned the nuance; the gray area; with each of them and I liked that. Whereas, West seemed like a straightforward character; (poor soldier clawing his way through the ranks); we see a different side to him with war at his heels. Ardee, his sister; seems to have other affinities that may or may not see fruit. Nothing factual; but definitely an inkling of something. Bayaz looking weak, or is this a ploy?? I feel like something is in the air between him and another character, and I cannot wait to find out what!

Can I tell you a secret?? I love Glotka. He is bitter, angry, remorseless, cold and hilarious! His inner thoughts keep me shamelessly giggling throughout his chapters. I think he is my favorite character; but what does that mean??

Anyway; I am not sure when I will read book 3; [b:Last Argument of Kings|944076|Last Argument of Kings (The First Law, #3)|Joe Abercrombie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1659900550l/944076._SY75_.jpg|929012]; but it will need to be 1st QTR 2024. If you have not added the first book to your TBR; what are you waiting for??

I thought this was the strongest book in the series overall. Great character development and two intriguing plot lines that had every opportunity to become stale due to bad execution and they didn't.
