Somewhere between a 4 and a 4.5. I enjoyed the slow burn character building of the first but felt like it was a lot of exposition to get to the main story, which got really started and going with this book. Evenly-paced and intricately plotted, while continuing on the character development well established in the first book. Better in every way to the first book - which I enjoyed! - and what I wanted from a second book in a trilogy.

+ I love anything glokta
+ I didn't mind the twist at the end. It fit bayaz completely tbh
- I'm not really a combat person! There's a little too much combat for my taste
Not a negative but I noticed in the last book there was a long combat scene with ferro and Logen that felt a little forced. I feel like I'm supposed to like them more than I actually do. I like them just not enough to read long combat scenes
