Enjoyed this much more than the first novel, which was generally pretty generic. but this adds a whole lot of strangeness to the world and story and it fans out in interesting ways across the world.

But, yeah, pretty solid stuff. Not my favorite fantasy of the year but it's a step up from what came before and it deals with narrative expectations in interesting ways. It's kind of never the book you expect it to be, which is interesting since the first book held so few surprises.

I've heard the trilogy gets better as you go and I see why. Probably finishing the trilogy before the end of the year, so we'll see what I think.
