I could listen to Roxane talk about anything but hearing the rawness with which she describes her body and life story is a great place to start if you don’t know her other work
I don't know of a fair way to review memoirs? Especially incredibly personal ones? This book ended up being so much more than what I thought it was going to be. It was raw and I know (and I heard, I listened to this on audiobook) that she held some back but I was there and I received the message. I guess I'll just end with my favorite quote: "I am stronger than I am broken."
Not really my thing but I really appreciate Roxane's honesty in writing such a revealing memoir.

This was not an easy read, the violence that Gay suffered at a young age is heartbreaking, that she kept it locked inside is devastating. It hurts my soul that this world we live in is so cruel. But even through that pain and the cruelness of this world, Gay has hope and she uses her writing to spread that hope.

I have no idea how to review this. Calling it raw makes it sound unfinished or unpolished - but the opposite is true. Roxane Gay tears her beating heart from her chest and dares you to take it.
