I loved this very much. It's curious and quirky, and I loved how magic and reality was weaved together to shape these beautiful stories of Iranian women

Et vanvittigt smukt, komisk, magisk og rørende portræt af 5 kvinder i 50’ernes Iran.

I haven't ever read a lot of magical realism but my few experiences have led me to believe it isn't for me. It seems writers of the genre tend to make stories about characters in which they tell you very little of said characters and then expect the reader to interpret a lot of the plot and magic and themes themselves. I don't enjoy that. I don't want to work very much when reading, not as much as I tend to have to with magical realism.

In Women Without Men I understood VERY little of what was going on. I felt clueless and confused and a little bored. So very much too abstract was the story for my poor simple brain.

The characters were somewhat of a mixed bag. One character out of five I liked for the entire book, two were interesting at first only to not be later, and two of them I just never cared for. It took a while for me to be convinced that this book was gonna be good because the writing was quite dull but a couple of chapters in I was really intrigued -both with some of the characters and some of the magic-. Then the characters all met each other, their stories intersecting and boy did it go downhill from there. I didn't like their dynamics together or the way the plot evolved.

As for the whole feminism thing, I believe it was well done but I also don't really care.
