Citra and Rowan are both teenagers in a society where the possibility of death has been eliminated. The solution to keep the population from overgrowth became scythes. Scythes have one job which is to kill (glean) people. Bother Rowan and citra are selected to be scythes. Both don't want this job but they go through with it and face many struggles.
Neal Shusterman developed his characters so well in this book and I can't get over how amazing this book is.

LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH OMG sooo guys rowan is going on the list now, and yes I wasn't sure about Citra at first but she's grown on me and I kinda admire her! So yeah five stars ON TO THE NEXT BOOK

This concept of a practically perfect utopia that still found a problem within the system is definitely an interesting concept. However, this book somehow perfected how to go about the imperfections to really make you think that human evolution truly is what we can accomplish. Didn't see anything of that coming and so so in love with the book and how everything from the concept of life, death and morality were explained and visualized.
Solid YA read with plenty of action (violence… duh) and a minor love story — which is a selling point for me because I can’t stand romance YA masquerading as science fiction or fantasy or horror.

This book was cool, had an interesting world and interesting ideas. Was pretty fun but nothing super special. Will probably read the rest of the series at some point.
