this is a meditation on what it means to be taught to simply accept your life, every aspect, never questioning anything, never truly making your own decisions believing that your acceptance of what is and your denial of your emotions is the epitome of manhood. a meditation on how a father might come to sacrifice a meaningful relationship with his son, how a father might come to deny who their son is so deeply that a wedge is created that seems impassable, each waiting for the other one to step forward with love, both hiding behind pain they don’t want to face, resulting in loss for the sake of maintaining an oppressive version of manhood

this is deep and meaningful and lyrical and beautiful

"Don't Cry for Me" by Daniel Black is, a heart-rendering story of a dying father's letter to his gay son telling him everything.

I would give"Don't Cry for Me" by Daniel Black a 4-star review because, I liked how this novel was in the form of letters, I think this is, a powerful and important novel, this is beautiful novel, I liked how it does focuses more Jacob than Issac so that his son can understand where he can from with how he treated him.

Even in my failure, I truly meant well.”

This book is a powerful POV of a father trying to right his wrongs to his son.

My feelings were all over the place with this book. ALL OVER.

I was angry, devastated, and at one point I wished this man hell.

Generational trauma. A skewed perception of Manhood. This book was heavy in subject matter, but I found myself unable to put it down at times.

I wouldn’t read too much into reviews, and just dive in. I’m happy I did.
