This slowly unfolding love story was a difficult read, only because I just found it so painful. In this father's confession to his son, he admits that his bigotry and ignorance ruined their relationship and he didn't realize it until it was too late. It hurt me to think about not loving one of my kids because of who they loved, and I really struggled my way through this subject matter. It was beautifully written, but it hurt my heart.

This book was well written and the pace is perfect. The family dynamic, particularly the father and son relationship, is very relatable. I was able to see my own father, grandfather and brother in this book. Though the men are the main characters the presence of the women in the book is strong. Thank you Dr. Black for such a beautiful novel.

Beautiful and poignant, full of raw emotions, Don't Cry For Me left its mark on me. Not the easiest read but definitely one not to be missed.

I didn’t think I would love this book. I didn’t want to empathize with a man who pushed away his son because his son was gay. I ended up loving it though. I had a knot in my throat the whole time and just couldn’t put it down.
