The decision to buy pink towels from the department store changed Detective Elise Sutton’s life forever.
As shots ring out, Sutton snaps into action and takes down the gunman to save the life of another man—a life for a life. Dealing with tremendous guilt, Sutton seeks out the man she saved to justify her actions. Thus begins a captivating cat-and-mouse thriller that swaps POVs, leaves the reader guessing, and delves into the human psyche. Overall, this was a layered, fast-moving psychological thriller.
Graphic: Death, Infidelity, Mental illness, Grief, Stalking
Moderate: Gun violence, Mass/school shootings, Murder
What Remains is a cat and mouse thriller about what happens to Elise after she’s deemed a hero for stopping a public shooting. Elise struggles with her role in the event and when she meets the man she saves she doesn’t fully understand the chain reaction she’s set off after realizing he’s not who he says he is.
This is a character driven plot. Elise went through a lot in this book. She struggled with the shooting and the events after while continuing to struggle with personal issues leaving her feeling isolated. I really struggled with Elise; I don’t know how she stayed and worked through everything. I don’t know how she didn’t lose faith in those around and just pushed through it but she did. I guess you don’t truly know what you have inside until you’re tested.
This is my second book by Wendy Walker and her writing style sucks you in and immerses you completely into the story. You feel like you are there next to the main character feeling all the emotions and pressure to solve the case.

Happy Thriller Thursday🖤 What Remains by @wendywalkerauthor was not what was I expecting, but in the absolute best way! The story follows Detective Elise Sutton after she is in a department store public shooting. The twists that follow are surprising and just when you think you have it figured out, another twist is revealed! I highly recommend this crime psychological thriller. It is narrated by two Earphone Award winners!

A slow burn thriller about a female detective who has to kill a suspect in order to save another person’s life. In the aftermath, the person she saves ends up stalking her and her family, endangering their lives and forcing her to take matters into her own hands. Interesting premise and characters, but the pace was slower than I like and I had trouble staying interested. I've liked others by this author much better. 3/5 stars.

This one starts with a bang. Both literally and figuratively. At times it reminded me of those old horror movies where you are yelling at the character for being stupid, but alas there is no book without the character’s choices and I never wanted to stop reading. I needed to know where the story was going and how these two seemingly unrelated cases would intersect. I had many hunches as I read and a couple were even right (yay me!)
A very layered and well thought out plot. At times while I was reading, my heart rate intensified and I was on the edge of my seat. When all the layers were revealed, I was surprised by how well the pieces fit together.
If you are a fan of Wendy’s other novels, like cat and mouse thrillers or just love a complex plot, you should pick this one up.
