This book deserves soooooo much more attention than it has so far! There are so many Greek mythology retellings these days, and so many of them are mediocre, but this one shines above a lot of them. So many retellings suffer from the fact that they are just a well-known story told again, but this one took such a different angle to a well know popular myth, and focused on characters not usually focused on. And rather than simply telling the story from their perspective, it deepened the story and added complexity that made it more interesting despite knowing how the original myth ends!

There were pockets of passages that were great to read, but I was bored for the most part, which was disappointing because there’s a lot of good storytelling to be had in any mythological canons.

I’ve always been drawn to Greek mythology and deeply enjoyed Madeline Miller’s books and wanted to give this one a shot too. This was so much darker than I could have anticipated. It’s a fascinating story and held my interest, though it was a bit slow in the very beginning. My biggest qualm with this was a lack of content warning. Not everyone knows the myth of how and why Medusa was cursed.
There was a graphic depiction of sexual assault that I was unprepared for.
Regardless of this being fantasy, content warnings are essential.
I also found the character of Euryales so unlikeable which made it hard to read her chapters sometimes.
