I thought Two Towers was better than Fellowship.
1. Tolkien is a great writer. There were many moments I would have to just stop and re-read a section because I thought it was very clever.
2. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm just not falling in love with these books as I hoped. I appreciate them. The story is charming, but I don't find myself on edge waiting to read the next chapter. I haven't been able to put my finger on exactly why that is, yet.

Part of me debates knocking my rating on both Fellowship and Two Towers to 3/5... just because they don't sit with me like other books do. It makes me sad. I want to LOVE them, but I don't. Even still, I do plan to finish the series.

The second half of the book was a little slow but it’s such a treat to get some Sam and Frodo content.

Incredible, epic fantasy. I absolutely adore the close bond and friendship between Frodo and Sam. Friendship goals?

After surprisingly enjoying Fellowship, I had high hopes for this one, but Johnny lost me.

My problems with this book really come down to pacing. After splitting up our group from book 1, we now had to follow three separate plot lines. I expected the book to shift to a different storyline every few chapters or so, but instead the book was split into three parts for each group of characters.

Merry and Pippin are on my list. Those two really annoy me, and their story with the Ents, though interesting, quickly started to drag when I realized that was the only story we were getting for a while. Even the Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli crew started to lose me as my mind just started to wonder what was happening with Frodo and Sam (the heart of the story in my opinion). Once I got to that third part, I was absolutely hooked, but I had to trudge through about 300 pages to get there.

Maybe a reread would change my thoughts, but for now it's getting a 3 star from me.
