A well written and rather sad book. It touches on familiar feelings of a lack of purpose and being overwhelmed by the many ways life can go. She struggles with so many interests and possibilities that she doesn’t pursue any of them and ends up depressed. The book is written with an eloquence that captures her feeling brilliantly.

I know people love it or hate it, but I loved it. In the same way that I love Girl, Interrupted and Bojack Horseman. Leaning into my seasonal depression. 😂
I think that every person in their late teens-early twenties should read this, especially those that suffer from depression. Plath has made in this book something that I have found more relatable than most modern accounts of mental breakdowns and dealing with depression. Her writing is beautiful descriptive and at times somewhat cryptic, with smatterings of black humor here and there.
Definitely a heavy read, however. Don't expect to go into this and come out feeling uplifted. This novel is an honest, bare-bones look at what it feels like to be depressed and suicidal, all while dealing with what it means to grow up as a woman. Great read, but not for the faint of heart.
