As always the setting, characters and especially the food make these my favorite mysteries.
Good crime stories set in Venice. It's kind of cool to read about Venice after traveling there recently!
I think the I like most about Guido Brunetti is his sense of justice, of what the result should be in spite of what the system achieves in any particular case. I think that is something we have in common. He is much better than I at steering the political machinations that affect him so that a decent outcome is achieved. And I do love Signora Elettra, who runs the whole Questura so efficiently and does so much of the work that makes justice possible.
This book had a good plot and the mystery was handled well, with the clues and the development progressing nicely and the characters being just ambiguous enough to make you wonder if your own conclusions were right. And the setting of Venice is a character in itself and draws you into the twists and turns of the story, like the twists and turns of the paths you must take to traverse the city of canals. All in all, an enjoyable episode in an enjoyable series.

I like learning about Italian culture and government thru fiction.
I am still loving this series. Thank you Donna Leon.
