I believe The Metamorphosis is an excellent example how quickly anyone’s life can change for the better or for the worse. Unfortunately for Gregor, the main character, his life has changed for the worse. His transformation into a beetle could be seen as the equivalent of suddenly contracting an unforeseen illness. The loss of his career due to this change causes his already financially troubled family to be even more stressed. With Gregor unable to work and without having any money, his family has to work even harder in order to support themselves. The guilt and fear of being a burden to his family, the sudden neglect and disgust towards him, and the need for things to go back to the way they were before. He doesn’t want to be treated as a disgusting creature, he just wants his family to see him as their own son again. It’s a wonderfully written analogy to the sad reality of how sometimes one’s life can change in an instant and unfortunately this change can greatly negatively impact the family as well.

A deep dive into affect and absurdism. How we use our assumedly 'human' bodies to carve out a sense of 'future' in the capital focused world around us. Big big dichotomies of man/ woman, bourgeoisie/proletariat, academies/uneducated and of course human/other. 5/5 took ages to read not a massive page turner.
