Faith & Vaughn
I didn’t care for this book as much as I did the first, but I also didn’t not like it. The continued world building was good and it had a solid storyline.

Really more like 3.5 for me on this one. I really didn't enjoy the first half of this book and the romance-y stuff is getting a little old to me already by this book (cats are possessive and purr when happy, I get it...please don't repeat this again..ever) but I really do like the societal structures she has created especially with the the Psy and I love how she is starting to develop counter culture worlds within the Psy world...I kind of wish the politics of this series existed outside of the whole paranormal romance genre but oh well...I am willing to slog through the sex scenes, I suppose.

Yum, gobbled this one up too. I really liked Vaughn and Faith, but they haven't eclipsed Lucas and Sascha as my favorites. Still, Vaughn's backstory was heart-breaking, and Faith was great. I loved seeing more of the world, and I am interested to see where the NetMind threads go.

More please!

In addition to being another delightful paranormal romance, I really enjoyed the world building in this one! I am in particular obsessed with the way the book created a connection between cults and business think tanks and capitalism as the psy religion in a book where a psychic (a prophet of sorts!) ultimately runs away to live in a cave in the woods. Nalini Singh is COOKING

Really enjoying this series, been quite a few years since I’ve got suck into a paranormal romance series, I used to really enjoy them and once upon a time they were my favourite kind of read. I had previously read books one to six years ago but I can’t remember anything about the series, so it’s like reading them for the first time again which is great. Nalini Singh has created an interesting world between the psy and the Changelings, this book was Faith and Vaughn’s, I love the sparkes between the characters, the females arent weak or easily pushed over by the males, but at the same time I love the male characters alpha traits. Going straight onto book three now.

Sometimes the first book in a series is so good, it’s hard for the following books to live up to the hype. I tried to temper my expectations with this book, but there was no need. It was fantastic.

In the first book, the Psy understood that she was feeling emotions. That was her fear. But that meant her transition out of the bubble of the Psy into the world of the Changelings wasn’t super rough. Not so with Faith. Not only has she been shielded from the world outside the Psy net, but she’s also been shielded from other Psy. Her rare classification makes her very valuable to her family and the other Psy. Faith has been conditioned to believe that even a simple touch of another being can send her into a seizure. The cats not only crave touch, they need touch. So when Faith and Vaughn find themselves irresistibly drawn together, there are some hurdles to overcome.

Vaughn is all about his animal instincts. In some ways, he’s more cat than human because of past trauma. That trauma also means he’s more of a loner than many of the others in his pack. But those instincts are what are needed for Faith to persevere and overcome the conditioning she’s had since she was a baby. Sometimes Vaughn seems to go too far, but more often than not his instincts are correct. Slowly, he teaches Faith to not only trust him but to trust herself.

This story expands our understanding of the psy-net and all it entails. With how Faith’s abilities manifest and the answer she seeks, much is revealed. Most of it adds to the mystery of this world, but much of it also helps the Changelings understand how they can continue to grow their own network. It’s fascinating and smart without being overwhelming.

I appreciate how different Faith and Vaugh’s story is from the first book. Not every Psy is going to come out of the net the same way or have the same personality, which the author made clear here. The passion and intense feelings are still there between the main characters, and that’s ultimately what I’m here for.

I was really invested in the story. The Psy and changeling lore was really interesting and the philosophical questions on the importance of emotions were fascinating.
But the relationships between the characters? Mhm. Difficult. It is made quite clear again and again that all characters in romantic relationships consent to the behaviour that their partners, specifically their changeling partners, portray. Yet consent is quite frankly a slippery slope in this book. A lot of the phrasing of thoughts, wants, wishes, etc. from the male mc are very worrying. And while the female mc's thoughts voice consent, some of it is given because she knows he needs it. Which is..a little uncomfortable.
I still had fun following the plot but you can bet that I wanted to punish several characters multiple times.
