It has been about 1.2 million years since I actually, physically read something this quickly. No audiobook, no speed reading, just a good time, spending a weekend reading a pretty damn good book.
This was a really fun time. When I started this on Saturday morning, I figured I would chip away at it over several reading sessions, but suddenly I was a third of the way through, then half, then finished. I've never had the pleasure of reading Colleen's work on the page before, as it's always been audiobooks with her in the past, so I was pretty excited she was just as addictive outside the audiobook medium as she is within it.
I was also pretty fucking stoked that she seemed to hear my prayers for a sketchy, weirdly cagey fellow à la Holder from Hopeless or Miles from Ugly Love, since many of her more recent novels lack that specific ingredient that goes into preparing the perfect Colleen Hoover Gut Punch™. That doesn't make her more recent works, such as It Ends With Us or All Your Perfects any lesser, but my favorite CoHo books are absolutely the ones that include a cagey guy with a checkered past and Heart Bones is one of those books!
I really got swept up pretty quickly with this one and, after the disappointment that was last year's Regretting You, I was excited to have a "proper" CoHo book with a proper cagey fellow, a proper Colleen Hoover Gut Punch™, and proper likable characters, interesting situations, and sweet sweet trauma.
That all said, this won't be an All Time Favorite of all the Favorites because, at the end of the day, it's a little cheesy and flawed and even though it's my kind of cheesy and flawed, I unfortunately can't be blinded to that. However, this did make me feel in a way I haven't felt since All Your Perfects, so I see that as an absolute win.
I honestly didn't even realize when I started this that I was reading it the weekend before Colleen's latest book, Layla comes out, but I think it's a happy accident. Fingers crossed that Layla is as good as this is!

I don’t know what to say, this crushed my soul. it’s just so heartbreaking that some people have to live such an awful life without anyone to support or love them. this was just so amazing, this definitely deserves 4 stars
the fact that she was never been hugged (or hold), is just so sad and heart wrenching.

I loved the setting! The beach house vibes! A dream! The trauma both Beyah and Samson had to face was heartbreaking! Even though I had my suspicions the twist still shook me. I just wish we had more time with Beyah and Samson as a couple after everything and with them just living their lives. They were very cute together though and just knew what the other needed so well.

I have to say that this book let me down so much. Usually I love Colleen’s books but this one, had some things that bothered me sooo much. First, like I get that she was poor, and worked hard to get out of this condition but I found that so hard to believe when she had a choice to just call her father and live with him. Of course, she didn’t know that he was kinda rich but she knew that he was not as poor as her and would have a better life. Why didn’t she do it sooner?
Also, she had some pretty deep secrets and she just opened up to Samson so fast, she barely even knew him when she told him all her secrets even though he didn’t say anything about him. And she knew him so little to just believe completely in him even when he’s arrested, like bro? Wtf? AND ABANDON THE SCHOLARSHIP SHE WORKED SO HARD FOR SO EASILY???
And at last, I think she could have more grateful, all the time throughout the book she was so whatever, like she passed from I barely have anything to eat to live in a lovely place on the beach and she acts like she doesn’t even care.
Obs: the plot twist was so predictable like kept emphasizing so much on how she would prefer him as a poor guy and he literally just had a bag with a couple of clothes.
Is not the worst book ever, but it certainly it is not the best.
