My first romance by Lisa Kleypas - and it was great! I had a couple issues but overall I greatly enjoyed the passion between the two main characters.

Amanda is a novelist and self-described spinster at 30, yet her curiosity leads her to approach a madam about receiving a male "visitor" to help her discover what all the fuss is about. But the man who appears at her door is not a professional but someone sent by the madam with a sense of humor.

Amanda is adventurous and fun (though she does not see herself as such), but also is a bit naive and oppressed by circumstance. Jack is a rogue - not afraid to go after what he wants, but his issues lie in his difficult upbringing. The two of them have electric chemistry which was fun to read.

My issues were:
SpoilerI felt horrible for the guy Amanda almost married - I can't believe she almost went through with that!! I mean going to Paris would have been better. The other issue was just that the aftermath was long - I thought it was sweet to see them together, but part of it was really sad and I was not expecting that! I think the ending could have been wrapped up a bit earlier, though this was a smaller issue than my first.

🎧 Audio: excellent! It appears the audio was recently redone in June 2018 - the narrator, Beverley A. Crick, does a great job with the male voice and Irish phrases.

I really liked it but the ending was overdone in my humble opinion

Amanda was annoying, and the whole pacing was off but Jack stole the show!!

Such a fun start that progresses normally into cliche romance situations. Still an enjoyable, comfort read. I liked the little time-relevant details like Dickens, snapdragons, etc.

It was nice to read so many HEA scenes at the end. A little weird, but readers don't get that as often.
