This book is actually beautiful and I’m not just saying that because I’m a lesbian with a soft spot for vampires. The plot is well written and it really gives us a look into the characters and what drives them to do what they do. I think allowing them to be mitigated and not just blank slates really aided in making this a book that was difficult to put down. Sabine is definitely my favorite character as I’m sure many can relate to. Charlotte is definitely my least favorite while Alice is someone I really don’t have very many opinions on I felt like I knew her sister, catty, a bit more then I knew her but that might also be the point. Overall I definitely recommend this and it actually shocked me that I liked this so much because I simply hated the invisible Life of Addie La Rue when I read and I couldn’t even finish it so maybe I’ll give it another shot after reading this. All this to say this is definitely a book I would recommend.

This is a beautiful book, and I really enjoyed the first half. I think one of the themes that came through the most is “if you live long enough, you will become what you hate the most”.
That being said, this book drags on a little. I think it could’ve been shorter…like 100 pages shorter.

This book was a delightful treat, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is curious to read a V. E. Schwab book. I am a big fan of vampire stories, and I found that the author’s take on vampires was pretty amazing. Great characters, great storytelling, great pacing. I was hooked from the very first page, and never once did my interest falter. I KNOW I will be rereading it at some point and I will be thinking about it for a while.

I overall enjoyed this more than Addie. It was slow at times, but eventually I was sucked into the writing and the timelines. I really enjoyed my time with it towards the back half. The ending was not what I expected and I have mixed feelings about it but still overall found it to be good enough, though, I could also see people disliking it. Schwab’s writing is incredible. However, I do dislike the run-on sentences she chooses to do when writing the contemporary. I would recommend the book but with a fair warning that like Addie, it isn’t super plot heavy. It’s really for the ✨vibes✨ and the beautiful writing, but there is a good story and a lot of character work.
