This is exactly what I want when I read a book about vampires. It's dark, gritty and explores the scary parts of humanity.

No mention of lesbian vampires in the description, and I don’t like vampires. Ending seemed rushed while the rest seemed too drawn out. The stuff about Catty was pretty much unnecessary, and there wasn’t really a need to understand everything about Sabine’s and Lottie’s relationship to understand why Alice was targeted. A lot of exposition for little pay off.

Beautiful, lyrical, poetic writing as always, I love Schwab’s style, I just wasn’t interested in the content.

I'm starting this book at a 4 star because it took me so long to read. It does have the potential to be higher. This is my first V.E. Schwab book, and I love the writing style. I definitely want to read more of their books. It just took me so long to read because life has been crazy.

I don't think the plot of this book was my favorite. It's hard to describe the plot. It's a story within a story. In the 2019 timeline, you have Alice, and at the same time you're switching to Sabine's timeline. And eventually Charlotte's story bridges everything together. Alice's part bored me in the beginning. I would keep reading to get to Sabine's parts. By the end of the book, I hated Sabine and was more interested in Alice's story. My favorite character though is Charlotte because I find her very relatable. Sabine is the most dynamic character in my opinion. I think her character changes the most throughout the story. The characters are definitely my favorite part because I love how complex V.E. Schwab makes them.

I think this book has solidified that I'm not a huge fan of adult vampire books. Adult vampire books are more graphic in the description of sucking blood and murder aspects, and the descriptions bother me. I don't usually mind YA vampire books because the descriptions are toned down.

I liked it a lot. There’s nothing in particular that I didn’t like. I just didn’t loooooove it.
