page tuner. great book.

Lehane does such an exceptional job with his characters. Heartbreaking story for so many reasons, but a fantastic read.

Great book. A favorite.

Well this is a desperate bummer all the way around.

But, it's a good reminder that I still love a detective story done well. It was--like Underground Airlines which I just finished--good enough to make me put other things (like...for example...life and work and family) aside until I was done. And like UA it ended unsatisfactorily, in this case with an emptiness that one might graciously say subverts our expectations and this broadens the genre, but to this reader it ends with an empty, moralizing improbability undeserving of the taught and fraught plot that ratchets us up for something more.

Brilliant..
Great characters, Great dialogue..
Dennis lehane is rare and gifted writer.. highly recommend

So many problematic things in this book, including the assumption that an abused child grows up to be an abuser. As a victim of childhood abuse, this seriously bothered me. I’d never harm anyone, especially not children.

Racism, misogyny, homophobia, and all the other stuff that goes along with toxic masculinity.

And, strangely enough, I enjoyed listening to this. Weird contradictions for me…

I’d give it a 2.5 to 3 stars.

Loved the book and movie.
