This book was alright, it was a pretty easy read which I needed but I didn't care a whole lot about the characters. It was fine, not my favorite book.

This is not the first book I've read that claims to be [b:The Westing Game|902|The Westing Game|Ellen Raskin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1356850909l/902._SX50_.jpg|869832] for adults. I'm sure that Publishing knows that there is a Market for that sort of thing. Although Tuesday Mooney Talks To Ghosts doesn't quite get there, it gets closer than anything else I've seen. Importantly, it gets that part of the appeal of The Westing Game is the ensemble cast, which is one of my favorite parts of this book. I want to be Tuesday Mooney when I grow up. Be warned, the thing that it doesn't have is fair-play clues. However,
Spoiler this is also fairly true in-universe, and the ACTUAL mystery is fair play for the reader
. I thought this was enjoyable and well crafted. 4.5 stars rounded up.

I read a lot of YA because adult novels kind of stress me out. Most characters in adult books kind of suck *cough cough the nest cough cough* and the constant theme of "the world is depressing and no one is happy" is neither entertaining nor interesting.

Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts is amazing. It's about a woman named Tuesday who is very competent at her somewhat boring job, but she enjoys her life. Then a billionaire dies and posthumously runs a scavenger hunt (39 clues but without as much murder) to win some of his fortune. Tuesday, her friend Dex, and the girl she tutors all embark on separate but engaging journeys of self-discovery and literal discovery.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It is gorgeously written, all the characters are very dynamic and have unique personalities and goals that don't always mesh together, and the scavenger hunt is actually really well thought out. There's even a touch of supernatural and a bit of a murder mystery.

Pros
- all the characters are people trying their best but still struggling with their own problems
- a pretty plausible scavenger hunt
- unique perspectives
- fits so many genres in one book

Cons
- why is there not a city wide scavenger hunt for a billionaire inheritance in my life I know I wouldn't win but I still want it to happen

This read like the Westing Game for grown ups. It was a multi-faceted story with clever characters. I enjoyed the search through Boston and the character's lives
