I loved the premise of the book, and I was looking forward to going through the game with the main character. I felt the book didn't quite deliver on this promise; the game, while shaping the narrative, actually takes a back seat for much of the novel to the character development. We also follow multiple characters, not just Tuesday.
That isn't to say I didn't enjoy the book - I very much did. There was a lot to love. I enjoyed the author's style, and the characters seemed realistic - likeable, but flawed. I enjoyed the access to Tuesday's inner world, particularly the development of what happened in her past. There were many lovely touches in the author's explorations of the characters' relationships.
However, the book I got wasn't quite the book I signed up for! After a promising start involving a bit of action and puzzle solving, the long middle of the book doesn't include much of this. The puzzles and clues we do get aren't given in a style that we feel we can solve and puzzle along with the characters. There is nothing wrong with this, but personally I had hoped to get into some interesting problem solving along the way.
Also, it was a bit frustrating that what initially appeared to be one of the original mysteries of the book was never given any resolution.
All in all, I enjoyed this book, particularly the lovely writing. However, it didn't quite do what it said on the tin!

What an odd, yet entertaining, little book. Part action/adventure, part mystery, part ghost story. It was full of unique/interesting (and in many cases highly eccentric) characters as well as lots of literary and pop culture references. I felt like I was playing the game right with them.
My only complaint is that we didn't really get any closure for Abby. Sure, while not really what the story was about Abby's disappearance played a big role in making Tuesday the person she became. It would've been nice to know what actually happened to her, but maybe that's just me.

3.5 - this is a total romp, but it felt like it jumped around a lot and not always in ways I followed. Still, though, a good time and a lot of great Boston-area shout-outs!

This was SUCH a FUN book. The characters, the story, the writing were all so good. I listened to this audiobook mostly on my walks to work in the morning, in the dark, and it was so perfectly fitting. The author sprinkled moments of amazing human-condition-truths into the most surprising places. Those moments were so compelling for me, and I think I would have completely missed them if I had been reading this book as text. I would have skimmed over those bits of character contemplation in search for the next piece of PLOT and ACTION. Listening to the audiobook forced me to slow down my reading and take each word as it came, which brought out those insights in such beautiful ways. The narrator did a fantastic job. Highly recommend this book.
I thought this book was so much fun to read! Sort of an adult Westing Game type of story, with fully realized characters and an unpredictable plot. This would make a terrific TV series in the right hands.
