This was a fun read, especially for a pandemic and a wonderful grown up companion to the westing game.
Audiobook 3.5 stars. Started out with a lot of potential but didn’t deliver.

Setting: Massachusetts
Rep: gay protagonist (Dex) Chinese-American protagonist (Sorry)
This was a really fun book with great writing that has finally broken through the load of bad books I've read recently. It's a scavenger hunt of sorts and an ode to Boston, with elements of Knives Out and The Wishing Game, and I really enjoyed all of the characters.

What a great book to end the year on. This was such a fun read!
Spoiler
I wish that the Abby story line tied up a bit differently, but I don't know much about ghost lore. I almost thought that Abby was murdered by Nat, which I also would have liked but maybe that would have been too pat?
I think the best thing I can say about this book is its not offensively bad, even if 5 out of 10 feels a little generous.
This places itself as a treasure hunt, and it starts as that too, but there are barely 4 sections to the hunt in a 400 page book, and the time between these is barely spent looking at the clues. Instead by half way through this has quickly become an ensemble drama. Not a bad one, but not what the blurb promised.
To top it off the characterisation is ropey at best. The main character is described as clompy and clumsy, but within 5 pages she's sneaking around unnoticed and this description doesn't appear again until the end of the book. There's an out and proud gay character, who you get narration from, who it suddenly turns out has been hiding a chunk of his personality (from us, while we were in his head!), which is mentioned for all of 2 scenes near the end. A lot of this comes across as planned plot points that the writer forgot while working on the book, so just drops them in unannounced.
Typing this out I might need to go and drop another star from this.

I've heard this described as The Westing Game for adults.
I wanted to like this book...it seemed light-hearted and fun. I just could not get into it. DNF.
I know it’s campy, but it was a good vacation read. Tuesday Mooney, gothic loner cool girl (we know because we are told multiple times), Dex the flamboyant cross dresser/emotionally needy best friend, and mysterious and handsome rich guy who doesn’t need all that and is running away from something (but what could it be??) are all trying to find themselves and figure out how to live the one life they’ve got (while also trying to find a piece of a lost fortune).
There are good things. It’s fast paced, and the dialog between Tuesday and Abby and the texts between Tuesday and Dex were funny—their voices were easy to hear. I liked the premise that an eccentric rich guy wanted to help people figure out what they wanted most and how to get it, so he created an elaborate game involving a scavenger hunt around the city. The book is squeaky clean, and I loved that it didn’t end (spoiler alert) with everyone nestled down in happy, forever relationships.
