I read this book after seeing the comparisons to Wonder, looking to see if it would be another book that my daughter would love. After reading it, I loved it, but I think it's one that has more magic for adults who understand and can appreciate the naivete of the 11-year-old narrator (who, as he tells people, is really closer to 13 in maturity years) and the complexity of the relationships that develop. This is a book that made me smile, made me sad, and reminded me that the world is a beautiful place. Recommended.
Fantastic as an audiobook with the many cast of characters, back ground noises and such. I imagine this recording being like listening to a long ago radio show before TV. Another good story that touches on mental health.
oh, ‘see you in the cosmos’ is so so so special :’)
it told a story of an astronomy-loving kid named alex petroski and his adventures and oh my god his story just warms my heart. it was written in a journal-ish format (cause he was recording his journey on his golden iPod which he’ll take to space for outer space creatures to listen to) and it really felt like alex was taking me along through his adventures!! its so so endearing, and i really enjoyed reading every single page of this book!!
as a person who’s also a sucker for astronomy, i just wanna hug alex so bad :’) i wanna be his frienddd i wanna come along with him and carl sagan and terra and idk lmao reading this just sorta made me feel like i was looking at the world through a kid’s eyes again and honestly, i needed that :’)
now i cant stop thinking about the aliens who will receive the recordings being like “oooh a cryptic message sent from earth” and they spend a lot of time and energy translating it to their language and finding out that its a heartwarming story of a boy’s adventure :’)
i highly highly recommend it!!! its such a light read, though the topics arent very light (there are a few discussions about mental health issues) but it’s incredibly easy to read and love <3

I read this in one sitting and didn’t want it to end. I’d 100% recommend listening to the audiobook alongside reading it or just listening to the audiobook because Kivlighan (the reader) did an amazing job with the character and it really suits the format of the book. Seriously, if you only listen to one audiobook in your life, let it be this one.
