This comment is vague on purpose but like me reading this book is like Alex learning about this person who happens to have the same name and birthday as his deceased dad. It's almost uncanny.
This book so amazing. First, I think this book pure of sci-fic but I was wrong. I couldn't guess the main conflict and the 'sweet' ending. Eventhough, I didn't cry when reading this book, but I felt sad for Alex. š¢ Not only about rocket, you will learn about family, friendship, and trust through 11th years old boy. š
Never expected that story can be so little sad but not making me crying a lot. But still after read the journey of Alex to be brave and finding his family truth, I felt warm in my heart. And this book is really interesting for people who love astronomy related, you will find more about astronomy trivia and the book format really suit for the audiobook version. The audiobook version just superb with all the backsound music that illustration every part Alex recording and full cast narration.
New favorite MG book. Sweet story that also has a road trip element. Great for STEM/ELA crossover, and for exploring different narrative styles. (Narrator tells story into a voice recording he wants to send into space). Bonus for teachers: comes with good discussion questions
I picked āSee You in the Cosmosā by Jack Cheng randomly at a book store since I was in a rush at that time and I donāt want to get out of there empty-handed (#bookhoarder problems). I guess thereās just something about the cover that really drew me into it. Anyway, I went home and read it without any expectation whatsoever and was blown away by how warm and fuzzy I felt afterwards. Alex, the main character in the story, is like the purest boy on earth and heās so smart, charming, and funny that I kind of want to have a baby brother just like him!
Even though the tone of the story is generally light-hearted, it also deals with highly-sensitive issues concerning oneās family like divorce, infidelity, abandonment, and mental health. All of these combined created an emotionally packed narrative yet when viewed in the eyes of an 11-year-old kid, it left a bittersweet but hopeful impression. On the other hand, my favorite aspect of the story is the friendship that Alex forged on his journey. Itās amazing to see how this kid inspired a lot of strangers with his bravery, humor, curiosity, and genuine love for people and astronomy.
Also, there are lots of little details in the story that filled me with delight. For example, I learned that Alex is half-Filipino since his mom originally came from the Philippines. I loved it since itās rare that I get to read characters with the same nationality as mine. And then thereās the astronomy jokes that are sooo lame yet I couldnāt help but laugh at them while reading.
With regards to the writing style, the author used a sort of āvoice recorderā format wherein you read instead of listen to the recording (does that make sense?). Anyway, I found it really interesting and creative and I guess it explained why a lot of people preferred the audiobook.
With all that said, I think that this is a really special book and I highly recommend it for those who want to read something that will leave you feeling like everythingās alright with the world somehow.
