This book was solid. As something that isn’t my usual style, I enjoyed it. The book follows eleven - year old Alex Petroski through a mix of events in his life and it kept me guessing.
The plot of the book was amazing and I really enjoyed the style of writing. Although it was aimed at teens younger than me, I did still enjoy it. As a fellow space geek, Alex’s enthusiasm and love for rockets and his dreams made me smile.
Would I recommend the book? Yes. It’s not only a lovely story but it’s beautifully written.

"And I wonder what'll happen when you DO find it. I wonder what you are going to think when you listen to these recordings, when you hear the sounds of a boy from planet earth trying to be brave and a boy trying to find the truth, and a boy who loves his family and friends and his dog that he named after his Hero."

I think this book wasn't for me. The main character was curious which is supposed to be a good thing but to me, he's annoying. There are so many things going on but I'm still bored. I did like the audiobook because it has sound effects and a full cast
This book was really sweet. I simply loved Alex. He dreamed of launching his ipod attached to rocket into space so that aliens could get an idea of what life is like on earth. Come on, that is adorable. His narration was hilarious. His conversation with Terra's boyfriend was absolutely gold. Real funny stuff.
Although I do think Alex sounded much younger than an eleven-year-old, maybe he was just too innocent for his age, but I do remember being eleven and I definitely understood some things that went over Alex's head. I don't know, maybe that's just me lol. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

This was overall a very sweet and innocent book to read. I would say enjoyable too but it took me 2 1/2 months to read it so I wasn’t captivated in the story enough to want to pick it up again.
I like the characters, I liked the idea of the storyline and originality, I liked the creative way it was written and most of all the short chapters! But there was something just missing for me. It may just have been that I couldn’t connect to the main character or any character so I didn’t feel as involved as I generally would.
I would recommend this book to anyone, but please be aware there are themes in the book that may distress some people. I do however think they were written about in a more respectful manner and they weren’t the focus of the story and no one was made out to be a victim and helpless or a villain and scary. There we’re multiple sides to every character which was so refreshing to see as 2D characters are not realistic.
I have given this book 4 stars as I would recommend it and it’s a book I will always keep on my bookshelf and will not be in a hurry to give this away any time soon! The messages and themes in this book I feel are important so I think it would be nice to see this on my bookshelf and reflect on this.

Very genuine and wholesome. Reminds you why it's important to be child-like sometimes. Also an easy read for when you're in a slump or trying to recover like me. I also think it captures the rawness of a child very well. It felt like one of my nephews or nieces telling me a story.

Wow. What a beautiful and heartbreaking story.
I listened to this one as an audiobook which I think was a fantastic decision considering this story is told through audio recordings that our young protagonist Alex is creating on his iPod so that he can send it into space for aliens to find and learn more about planet Earth. I didn't read the synopsis before starting this one so I was unaware of the format, but it just worked so perfectly as an audiobook. There were multiple voice actors as well as sound effects which made these recordings feel super realistic and believable.
While this book started out quite light, it quickly started to turn into something more complicated and heartbreaking. We start to learn more about Alex's home life and how it may not be what it seems.
This is very much an adventure story from the perspective of a young boy, but with a contemporary feel. He meets a slew of characters along the way and each of them do everything they can to help Alex along the way.
I absolutely adored this story and I think it's one that everyone should check out!
