I really loved the relationships that Piper built. Obviously her relationship with Brendan is the main focus, but her relationships with Hannah and with the folks in Westport made the book even better. I think that her character growth was really well written, though I do think the book could have taken place over a longer duration and it would have been more believable that she’d made these deep relationships.
The one thing that made this a four star read was that I feel like some of the romance was rooted in internalized patriarchy. Brendan and Piper are adorable, but some of how they talk about their relationship rubbed me the wrong way. It wasn’t enough that I couldn’t get past it though!
I will definitely be reading more by Tessa Bailey. 4 stars!

I thought his character was great, even though the fact he was forcing himself to keep grieving his ex-wife to make his father-in-law happy was quite frustrating, I think we is exactly was Piper needed. He doesn't make her change her attitude or condemn her 'spoiled' nature, but rather embraces and adores it as he does all the other aspects of her character.
Piper herself is a very refreshing heroine, far from being 'not like other girls' and wanting to distance herself from stereotypical feminine attributes, Piper enjoys what she enjoys and feels not shame for it, and I really liked that side of her.

I don't know if I just wasn't in a romance mood or if this wasn't for me, but I found it a bit of a slog. (I'd lower the rating, but the writing was genuinely good.) There were a few too many long internal monologues, and as much as the story tried to validate Piper's outlook and lifestyle, I don't think it succeeded. The main thorn in my side was the parental/familial relationships – I know she's 28, but the parents play an explicit role in the plot, and having developed that relationship more would've served the story well imo. It also wouldn't've hurt for her sister to have a little more characterization. And I don't want to spoil anything too much, but if you're not a fan of the final act breakup, you may hate this one. (If you enjoy the trope, you might love it.)
As a romance novel, it's pretty solid. Just wish it'd been a bit more rounded with some character aspects.

Medical content refers to a scene that occurs at a hospital. References to grief are a late spouse, and the death of a parent when one was very young.
