Well-structured, good emotional beats, a well-told story that you WILL cry during at least once. Power of relationships, et cetera.
(I cried three times, and it is not a long book.)

First, I think it's pretty neat that the one named dog character is a Kai Ken. I suppose this is less remarkable because it's a Japanese novel, and Kai are a Nihon Ken breed, but still--I like finding them in fiction!
There's a bit where it's mentioned that male tabbies are rare, which isn't true--it's male calicos and tortoiseshells that are; I don't know if this is the translation or the original, as at the end it is correctly stated to be calico.
Anyway, it made me cry, so I'm giving it 5 stars.

I could not have imagined that reading from a cat's perspective would have been such an emotional experience. The male cat named Nana (a funny story I won't spoil) is wonderful and witty with the right combination of sarcasm and sweetness to make him endearing. His musings about humans and the world around him made me smile often and pause to reflect.
Nana is hit by a car and badly injured but is rescued by Satoru... or perhaps they rescue each other? Satoru eventually needs to re-home Nana so they set off on a journey to meet up with old friends of Satoru in hopes that one of those friends might be a right fit home for Nana. Through the course of their travels, we learn all about Satoru's life, friendships, and experiences in a way that made me laugh, cry, contemplate life, and personally reflect.
I found this story a rewarding reading experience and recommend it to anyone who enjoys books that tug at your heartstrings and make you think.

To be honest I didn't want to finish this book.
The pets-kind-of-plot it's a hard topic for me and in the beginning to read this book wasn't a good idea.
There were moments when memories came to me and tears appeared but I continued.
I knew what was going on with Satoru but I wasn't prepeared for that ending it was just to much for me. The last part broke my heart. This story is so pure and wholesome that makes me remember things that are hurtful but instead of remain hopeless it gives me strength by the idea that tenderness can provide me a good future (a future full of love)
However I think that if I keep reading this kind of books one day my tear box will broke haha.
